Understanding Google's Crawl Process: My Journey with Business Name Edits and SERP Reflection
I want to share an experience I had with the Google Business Profile Community Forum regarding a fake negative review issue. Initially, I created a forum thread using our business name in an attempt to find a solution and resolve the problem.
When searching for our business name, the forum post appeared in the Google Search Engine Results Page (SERP). At that point, one of my team members requested the deletion of the post. However, I chose not to delete the posts as I wanted to show appreciation to the individuals who helped remove the negative review within a short period. I also recommended them on the forum, allowing the volunteers to earn points.
Later on, I decided to edit the business name in the Google Community Forum post, replacing it with "ABCD" instead of our actual company name. Despite making the change, Google continued to display the old information, including the previous business name, as the meta description in the SERP for approximately 10 days.
To confirm the status, I checked the forum post page link cache and the last crawl date using the Google Mobile-Friendly Test and Rich Snippet Test results. The crawling date appeared recent, but the edited information was not being reflected.
Meanwhile, I analyzed different angles on how Google crawls and indexes websites quickly in other industries compared to normal websites. Media websites, for example, are crawled and indexed very quickly (within 1 hour). For instance, the IPL final cricket match score, where the Gujarat Titans scored 214/4 in the IPL 2023 final update, was available within 20 minutes on Google SERP by the sites like "Times Now News" and Indian Express sites. This highlighted the disparity between their quick indexing and my situation with the Google forum community page.
Finally, after waiting for 10 days, the edited information began to appear in the Google SERP when searching for our particular business name. This experience taught me that Google's crawling process is beyond our control, and we must patiently wait for Google to fully understand and reflect our edits and changes on the SERP.
