1. How is Google handling multiple h1 tags in HTML5? Google does not treat HTML5 differently & having multiple H1 tags on a page is fine. Be reasonable when using them, use them where they make sense. There's definitely no penalty for using H1s.  2. Title Tags and H1 Tags should be different? I think its good practice to let title tag and main headline look similar for two reasons: 1. Usability - if title and headline are more or less the same, it's easier for users to identify the page they clicked through to from the result pages as the one they found on the search engine because search engine results use the title as main result element, whereas the element immediately visible on the page is the headline, the title there is invisible as long as users don't know exactly where to look for it.
